LOWELL JOHN MILLS JR Obituary

Lowell John Mills, Jr ("Sarge" "Bubba") 89, was claimed by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 23rd, 2018, following complications from hip surgery. Mr. Mills. Born in Barnstead, NH May 23, 1929 to Dora (Lougee)and Lowell J Mills; he was a long-time resident of Portsmouth, NH. Predeceased by his parents and brothers, Leslie and Robert Mills. "John" leaves behind his childhood sweetheart and wife of 63 years, June (Flanders) Mills and their two children Dale Mills (Colorado) & Gale Mills (Florida), his sister Helen Waite of Laconia, NH. and her two children Dylan and Tony, as well as two Grandchildren; Dale Mills, Jr. and Shane Mills, and a Great Granddaughter Destiny Mills of Colorado. Mr. & Mrs. Mills are delighted to have an extended family that includes Patricia (Yergeau) Royer and Mike Royer of Portsmouth, NH and their two children, Christopher Royer and Angie Royer. John "Sarge" Mills, Jr. served his country honorably for 20 years in the US Army, Transportation Division, with duty stations that included; White Sands Proving Grounds, England, Alaska, Greenland, Fort Devens, Mass, and Mannheim, Germany. "Sarge" achieved the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal, Expert Carbine Medal, and surprisingly a Good Conduct Medal. John was quick with a smile and his never-ending humor and wit earned fast friends where ever he went. He will be truly missed by those that knew him and loved him. Beyond his love for God, Family, and Country, he loved the Ocean and spent many years deep sea and Tuna fishing with George Hilton and the Hilton Fishing Fleet in Newburyport, Mass. John also loved to spend time at the family camp at Lake Winona (NH); Skippering his boat, counting the Loon, and trolling the waters in search of ‘the big one." Mr. Mills was a Master Mason, joining the Peter Rasmussen Masonic Lodge in Germany and recently received a commendation and medal honoring his 50 years of Masonic service. John was also a long-time member of the VFW and American Legion, Post 0015. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held at Green Grove Cemetery Main Street Ashland, NH on Wednesday September 5, 2018 at 2 pm. Per his wishes, John will be cremated, with no viewing or visitation service. In lieu of flowers, John would be pleased for donations to any vetted Veteran's organization of your choice.
