Gene Trebor "Mickey" Meier Obituary
Gene Trebor Meier...aka “Mickey” passed away at 91, Monday, April 28, 2025 at his Thornton Home with his family by his side. Mickey was born December 22, 1933 in East Orange, New Jersey to Robert and Rhoda Meier of Maplewood, New Jersey.
The family moved to Wellesley, Mass when he was three years old. Mickey attended Wellesley High School where he was a star athlete. Soon after graduating he moved to Webster, New Hampshire where his love for the outdoors and woods cultivated into a deep passion for hunting and fishing. Following that, Mickey enlisted in the U.S. Army where most of his military career was spent in Germany. The Army recognized his skill in baseball. He was recruited and assigned to the Transportation Unit. Mickey was the Cardinals star pitcher and drove the baseball team around Europe on a goodwill tour.
Mickey married his high school sweetheart, Dale Goodnough. Together they had five children: twins Sandra and Stephen and Douglas, Gene and Jeffrey, all raised in Campton, New Hampshire. Soon after marrying Dale, Mickey was recruited by the Milwaukee Braves (now the Atlanta Braves.) His baseball career was short-lived due to a severe elbow injury. Most of Mickey’s working career was with the New Hampshire State Police where he raised and trained bloodhounds for the K9 unit. He retired in 1979 as Lieutenant.
Filling his life with the things he enjoyed most, he spent time at his “Happy Place”, his camp on Millsfield Pond, northern New Hampshire. He enjoyed teaching the grandchildren how to fish. Summer time would be spent gardening, fishing and playing golf. He always looked forward to hunting season whether it be in New Hampshire, Vermont, New York or Maine. All species were fair game. He took up taxidermy as a hobby, mounting various wild animals for himself, as well as family and close friends.
Mickey represented Quaker Boy, a manufacturer of wild game calls. He was on their pro-staff introducing their products to local sporting goods stores. In 2000 he vacationed in California where he met Cathy. They were married in November and have spent nearly 25 years residing in Thornton, New Hampshire. In January 2024 Mickey was honored by the National Wild Turkey Federation where he was inducted into the New England Turkey Hunting HALL of FAME. Mickey made the most important decision in his lifetime that would determine his final destination.
Mickey accepted our Lord Jesus as his personal savior. The moment Mickey took his last breath, he was in the presence of God. He no longer suffers. If he could talk to you now, he would tell you that it is all true, Heaven is beautiful! For everyone who calls upon the name of the lord will be saved. Romans 10:13 Mickey is survived by his wife, Cathy, five children, Sandra of Joppa, Maryland, Stephen of Campton, Douglas of Santa Barbara, California, Gene of Ashland, Jeffrey of Thornton and a blended family of twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Mickey, I love you and will miss you more than words can tell, but I know that one day I will see you again and am comforted by that knowledge.
Forever, My Love,
Cathy
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
