EDWARD MELVIN DOGGETT Obituary
Edward Melvin Doggett, 75, of Rumney, NH passed peacefully in his home with family at his side on May 20, 2017. Born in Plymouth, NH on May 6, 1942 son of the late Edward N. Doggett and Rachel Green Thompson. Eddie grew up in Plymouth and graduated from high school in 1960. As a young man he worked at several First National Stores, managed automotive services stations and had a reputation as an excellent automotive mechanic. For many years he was proprietor of Ed Doggett's Automotive Service in Plymouth, NH and then in Rumney where he retired in recent years. His love for auto racing started in his youth and continued through his adult live. After marrying Jane, daughter of Harold and Marian Bickford Baker of Ashland, NH on March 20, 1976, Ed and Jane together raised their daughter Kristen and son Marc. The children and parents were involved in school sports, horses, 4-H and, of course, auto racing, starting with go karts and moving on to mini-cup cars and late model racing. "Steady Eddie's" passion for racing has brought many wonderful people into his life. He was honored at his home on May 21st by many of his racing buddies and families who shared laughter and tears along with a wonderful barbeque. A much deserved "Thank You to All". Edward was also involved with the Plymouth Elks Lodge 2312 over many years. He was recognized during the Lodge's 50th Anniversary celebration as a Charter Member. Ed leaves his wife, Jane, of 41 years; a daughter, Kristen Doggett Manning and husband Michael; a son Marc Edward Doggett and his significant companion, Rafaella Grigoletto and her son Enzo Toscano; and a granddaughter Lydia Morgan Payne. He was predeceased by his sister, Natalie Doggett Pollini, who leaves behind a brother-in-law, Jack Pollini. He also leaves behind his sister Linda Doggett Van Stelten and husband John; a sister Karen Doggett Wansley and husband Grant; a brother Peter Thompson and wife Marcia; and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family is planning a "Celebration of Life" at Edward's home, 30 Stone Hill Road, Rumney, NH on Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 12 noon to 3 PM. Please come and join us and share your stories.
