Bradford, N.H. - David A. Learned, 82, died Monday, December 30, 2024, at Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, VT.  He was born in Concord, N.H., on March 15, 1942, to Richard and Helen (Fredette) Learned. 

Shortly after graduating high school in 1960, David started his long-lasting career with the United States Coast Guard on February 26, 1963.  While stationed in Miami, Florida in 1965, he went on a blind date with Marcia Eckman.  That was the first night of many years they would spend together.  The Coast Guard took them to many places, including Bermuda, Alabama, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, and Tennessee, and then settled in Dunedin, Florida.  Amid their travels, they started a family together, having three beautiful daughters. 

David retired from the Coast Guard in 1991 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer

His love for New Hampshire brought him home part-time.  David joined the Marine Patrol patrolling Squam Lake.  He retired from the Marine Patrol as a supervisor.

David became a full-time resident of New Hampshire, becoming a police officer in Rumney, and was later promoted to Sergeant before retiring. 

David was active in the town and the American Legion, participating in many parades and events.

David had many friends and loves. He shared a common love of motorcycles with Carol Avery, whom he later married and shared a home together.

David's love of travel led him to purchase an RV, with hopes to travel the country and visit his daughter, family, old friends, and service members.

David loved his dogs from Samantha to his recent dog Skippy, whom he rescued.  David always went out of his way to make sure ANY animal was taken care of completely.

David is survived by his three daughters:

Shawna (Rodney) Kirkby of Palm Harbor, FL., Sandy (Lisa) Boeving-Learned of Pittsburgh, PA., and Cyndi (Mike) Cissell of Oldsmar, FL.; four grandchildren Ashlea (Chris) Gregson of FL., Brittani (Nick) McAllister of PA., Kyle (Kennedi) Cissell of FL., and Kaitlyn Cissell of FL.; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly Nemetz of Strafford, N.H.

David is preceded in death by 

father Richard Learned, mother Helen (Fredette) Learned, ex-wife Marcia (Eckman) Learned, and his brother Richard Learned

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to any animal organization of your choice.
