Cathy Ellen (Stokes) Morin Obituary

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved Cathy Ellen (Stokes) Morin, 70, of Holderness, NH on Tuesday November 19, 2024. Cathy was surrounded by her loving family at home when she passed peacefully after a brief illness.

She was born on September 4, 1954 in Laconia, NH to the late Roland and Ruth Stokes.

Cathy spent the majority of her career caring for others, with a passion for residents in long term care.  She dedicated 25+ years to the residents of the St. Francis Home in Laconia, working effortlessly to make sure every resident felt at home, as to her they were family. She spent her years of semi-retirement working in the ER at Speare Memorial Hospital until full retirement in 2021.

To know Cathy was to love her.  She was a devoted and selfless mother, who sacrificed so much to raise her children.   She was a loving wife, who appreciated the simplest of things. To her, what mattered most was time spent together with loved ones. She always put others first even until her last day. She taught her children to love unconditionally and that is how she lived her life. Friends and co-workers would describe her as loving, honest, compassionate, empathetic, dedicated, trustworthy, selfless, reliable, a  great listener and somebody who you could always count on. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren, “Grammy” was the very BEST.  Whether it was a sporting event, concert, Prom, birthday party, graduation, birth or marriage, Grammy was always present.

Cathy loved the ocean, particularly Wells Beach, Maine where she spent many summers with her family. She loved to walk on the beach collecting seashells and visiting numerous lighthouses along the coast of Maine. She was a collector of all things nautical, stuffed bears, Crocs of all shapes sizes and colors and Vera Bradley handbags!  Over the last 12 years she enjoyed traveling with her husband Roger, whether it was a day trip with a picnic, a bus tour to Canada or a flight to Nashville, they made so many special memories. She loves to craft, everybody who meant anything to her has likely received one of her personalized hand made cards.

Cathy is survived by the love of her life, her husband Roger Morin of Holderness.  Her adoring children, Holly Donovan of Laconia, Kera Merrill of Weymouth, MA, Jamin Donovan and his significant other Vicky of Laconia, Darcy Gibson and her husband Ryan of Laconia and son in law Jason Record of Belmont, NH.  She was blessed to be a “Grammy” to 10 grandchildren, Briana, Caitlyn, Makayla, Quincy, Makenzie, Alexis, Camille, Ethan, JJ and Kaleesi. As well as a “Great-Grammy” to Gabriella, Elijah, Olivia and Liliana. Also survived by her sister and brother in law Judy and Steve Weber, her brother and sister in law Brian and Debra Stokes, her brother in law Philip Morin and wife Carole, brother in law Robert Morin and wife Paula and sister in law Claire Posner and husband Arthur, as well many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Cathy is predeceased by her in-laws, Sylvio and Juliette Morin.

There will be no calling hours.  A casual Celebration of Life to be held in Fosters Hall @ The Common Man, 231 Main St Plymouth, NH 03264 on December 1st from 1-4:00pm.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Andrew Seefeld of Speare Memorial Hospital, for not only his leadership and guidance to Cathy during her tenure at Speare but also the care and compassion he displayed during her recent diagnosis. She admired him as both a colleague and a friend.  Also, a heartfelt thank you to Pemi -Baker Hospice & Home Health for the exceptional care provided to Cathy.

For those who wish, memorial donations in Cathy’s name can be made to the St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Activity Fund, 406 Court Street Laconia, NH 03246.  For more information go to:  Dupuisfuneralhome.com.
